A WINTER’S TALE - Autumn/Winter 2013

Autumn/Winter ‘13 is a nod to timeless sartorial style - showcasing beautifully tailored pieces with that unmistakably Herringbone modern twist.

Inspired by some of the most stunningly picturesque locations around the world from Cumbria in England’s Great Lakes district, the wine regions of Burgundy, France and Italy’s Lake Garda, Herringbone Autumn Winter 2013 injects modern luxury with an impeccable attention to detail.Shot by renowned photographer David Mandelberg on location in Bombo - a dramatic coastal quarry on NSW’s south coast, the backdrop sets up our 3 protagonists - Max, Jira & David. Rebelling against the tide, they journey in search of freedom, liberation towards the future.

An interview with our Head of Tailoring, the champion of our Made to Measure Service, Mr Massimo Guglielmi.
Read on….
Based: 7 Macquarie Place, Circular Quay (but travels frequently for MTM appointments!)
Item you never leave home without: My sunglasses. I have lens for most of light conditions … I feel naked without them!
Most amusing question a Made to Measure client has asked: Countless of them, but one in particular is still impress in my mind: “Is it ok to dry-clean my suit once a week?”
Essential style tip: Be experimental until you’ll naturally find your look.
Favorite Sydney spot: Hugo’s (Manly) at Sunset.
Preferred tie knot: Four-in-Hand
What is the biggest challenge facing Sydney men to stay well-styled?: Majority of men in Sydney underestimate the importance of style and still consider it as mere vanity. They don’t realise that style is an expression of personality and the clothes they wear are a medium of communication.
The challenge is to find that individual style that complements and shows a man’s personality to the outside world. It takes some effort but once tapped into there are so many benefits this can bring to a man both professionally and socially…

A quick getaway this Easter is at the top of all of our minds. But the hard part is knowing what to pack for simple, classic style on your long weekend.
We’ve got 3 great suggestions to make this easy for you!
1. Remember to pack items that can be worn more than once! Pack some Merino Pullovers - with the quick changes to the weather recently, Merino Knitwear in a plethora of Autumnal colours is the key to keeping warm.
2. Shirts, shirts & more shirts! Checks, Stripes & a few classic polains. Shirts are versatile and look great under a Jacket or Knit. We recommend a textured Herringbone Twill or Pinpoint for structure, warmth and clean weekend style.
3. Don’t forget to pack some Accessories. They can easily take your look from day to evening, or mix up an outfit you may decide to wear more than once. Plus - Bow Ties and Scarves take up minimal packing space (who wants to carry a heavy bag!) and showcase some sharp, sartorial style.

Autumn Racing Carnival - what’s your style?

Racing season is a time to don your finest suit, polish your shoes and reach for the pocket square; a perfect occasion to express your most sartorial self. There are few restrictions, but elegance is the aim of any race day event. Autumn racing is no time to dress like you have rushed out of the office; however you need not match your outfit to the hue of your partner’s head piece. A flash of colour is fabulous, but avoid looking like a child’s birthday cake – it’s all about balance.

In planning your outfit I suggest a light charcoal or navy soft-shouldered suit; our Uptown Sharkskin and Washington Twill are two wonderful options. Whatever shade you choose, the cut is everything. Pop into one of our stores to discuss how a suit should fit. Tips: the shoulders should not be too wide and, although the length of your trouser is more subjective, there are still right and wrong ways to go about it.

Pair your tailored suit with a coloured gingham shirt and knitted tie, or opt for a classic white Herringbone weave shirt with a wonderful silk number. The pocket square is an indulgent bit of fun, not really needing to match anything, but a chance to complement your winning combination.

Finally, the shoes. In my opinion, the most important factor to finish any outfit. Avoid anything white, pointed, and anything that becomes higher at the tip. As you’re not in a corporate environment, you have the freedom to wear those tassel loafers or monk straps you treated yourself to and have been dying to wear.

Good luck and do pop into our stores this racing season for advice from our perfectly chosen staff.

The first of our Autumn/Winter 12 collection takes inspiration from one of the most charismatic cities in the world: San Francisco. With its Golden Gate Bridge and architectural style embedded in the landscape, the beauty of a San Francisco sunset is unrivalled.

Featuring coral, deep blue and natural palettes, our AW12 collection begins with warm hues and classic lines. The fabrics in this wardrobe are designed to be layered; ideal for cities by the bay where climate is often subject to change.

Earthy tones rich in chocolates, camel and stone create an understated look that easily compliments brighter pieces, such as our linen check scarf, striking silk ties and ladies’ coral cashmere coat (all featured above).

Take a trip to San Fran and explore our new collection in store and online now.
